3 learning from partying in Berlin

The infamous-Berghain

Berlin, the city that almost has “party” directly hyphened into its name, the city when you speak it you can already hear the heavy techno music in the background, the city where you can already picture the graffiti, the colorful lights, and people dressed in all styles, the city where you could almost smell the distinct air mixed with alcohol, cigarettes, and all the sins. I have the pleasure to spend my Easter weekend partying in Berlin after my first official visit in 2020 New Year’s Eve. I have been to parties elsewhere in Europe and I have to say Berlin’s parties are definitly the most special, most open and most diverse. Even though some people might view partying as pure pleasure and entertainment, I do think I’ve learned a thing or 3 from these underground, unspeakable, unforgettable parties ;)

1. No one really cares. Just be yourself

In Berlin, you’re free to be whoever you want, dress whatever you love, have the hairstyle of whatever you like, and show whatever kinky fetish you’re into. People are unique in their own way and no one passes a judgment. People also find friends with common interests/fetishes. You can really be yourself here and no one really cares.

It shocked me when I first visited and wonder how come people are so brave about it and how confident they are about themselves. However, we should always be like this. Not just when we’re partying in Berlin. Of course, there is time and place for the right attire and topics to talk about. But, we always have the freedom to just be who we are and show what we like. We shouldn’t care so much about what people around us think. And when we are expressing our true self and being confident about it, we attract people with the same interest and we become happier, freer, and SEXIER. ;)

2. No one really cares. Take care of yourself

In Berlin, it’s easy to get lost and get sucked into the toxic party culture. You get wasted, waste your money on endless partying, barely sleep, and lost track of time and space easily. It could be dangerous and scary and in the worst case, you might end up dead.

You need to learn to take care of yourself. You need to be aware of how much you can take and when you need to tell yourself to stop. Because if you don’t, no one is going to be your parent and stop you.

It applies to life outside of the dancefloor. As you become an adult, you need to learn to take care of yourself financially, physically, and mentally. You need to be your own boss and set your own boundaries. Know when to start, know how far you could go, and know when to stop. That’s how you mature and be a real adult in life.

3. There are people who care. Cherish them

However, you’re also not alone in this world. You never are and you never will be. Even though it’s important to take care of yourself, you also will find people who would be willing to take care of you.

You should never take them for granted. Cherish them. Because even when they might be busy taking care of themselves, they even find time and energy to look after you. That’s true friendship, connection, and love. That’s rare and beautiful.

If you ever got a chance to go to Berlin, just let go of any rules, stereotypes, and boundaries and truly embrace the culture and vibe. However, if you’re a first-timer, please take care of yourself and best have someone who’d take care of you no matter what condition they are or you are in.

Take care and have fun!
